Everyone aren’t gifted with a Hollywood smile. Some people have a larger jaw than their teeth and vice versa resulting in spaces between the teeth and crowding and overlapping in the other case. This also occurs due to childhood decay which might have resulted in loss of space.
This may result in an open bite where the front teeth do not meet together.
Whatever the problem, it can be corrected through some appliances and braces which is called orthodontic treatment. This treatment is a way of straightening or moving teeth, to improve the appearance of the teeth and how they work. It can also help to look after the long-term health of your teeth, gums and jaw joints, by spreading the biting pressure over all your teeth.
There are 4 types of braces:
- Metal Braces
These are the metal brackets and wires that most people picture when they hear the word “braces”.It is the least expensive type.
- Ceramic Braces
Ceramic braces are the same size and shape as metal braces, except that they have tooth-colored or clear brackets that blend in to teeth. Some even use tooth-colored wires to be even less noticeable.
It consists of a series of 18 to 30 custom-made, mouth guard-like clear plastic aligners. The aligners are removable and are replaced every 2 weeks. It is almost invisible and also patients can eat and drink whatever they want.
- Lingual Braces
They are the same as traditional metal braces, except that the brackets and wires are placed on the inside of teeth. They are invisible from outside.
